SELF-DIRECTED RESIDENCY
Lawnya Vawnya's Self-Directed Residency offers musicians from across Canada the opportunity to work for 7-days in LV's production studio in downtown St. John’s. The residency presents the perfect opportunity for musical artists to write, produce, or develop new or ongoing projects in the inspiring setting of St. John’s summer. The suite is fully equipped with studio monitors, 16-channels of digital inputs, professional microphones, and more.
Please note, our space has volume restrictions during business hours, and therefore this program is more suited to volume-controlled projects, e.g. computer based production, vocals, acoustic instruments (except for percussion), electronic music, speaker music, DI'd instruments, etc.
This program is self-funded. Applicants are encouraged to apply to external funding programs to support their project.
LV provides: production studio, letters of support for funding applications.
Residents are responsible for their own meals and accommodations.

BIROGLYPH
BIROGLYPH aka Tanatswa Mushonga, affectionately known as “T” by his mates, is a rapper, performance artist, songwriter, published poet, and writer from Harare, Zimbabwe. A nomad, honing and harnessing their craft during time spent in Jamaica and The Bahamas, the latter of which they once called home, where their passion for performance flourished. Now residing in St. John's, NL, they've showcased their work at various events and collaborated with numerous local artists, asking vital questions about belonging, identity, connection, and the complicated notion of "home" through both page and mic.
Blending hip-hop with spoken word, they independently released the collaborative mixtape Cross Countries with producer Clyde in 2022, available on multiple streaming platforms. One review described the EP as sliding from lo-fi hip-hop into acid jazz and jazz rap, framing BIROGLYPH's mellifluous, miasmatic delivery with everything from a runner's footsteps to crackling retro techno and the pull of ocean tides, laced with samples of news broadcasts on distant unrest and a Langston Hughes echo. They've also featured on Sarkastodon's Blood Moon EP, where they rapped alongside local acts Albert Dalton, Reggie Morales and Scarlett.
Currently based between worlds, BIROGLYPH is at work on a new EP and a forthcoming full-length project. Before the Summer ends, expect S.O.S - (Soliloquies Of a Solipsist) the EP and 2 new singles OTW!

SKYE WALLACE
A voice like a commanding instrument, unflinching lyricism, and a swaggering live show shaped by years on the road: Skye Wallace has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s most compelling artists. Her blend of folk, rock, and alternative influences has won critical acclaim, a devoted fan base, and stages shared with the likes of Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette, Matt Mays, Television, and more.
The Act of Living marks Wallace’s latest artistic evolution, offering an exploration of life’s most profound experiences. Produced alongside Hawksley Workman and released on Tiny Kingdom, The Act of Living finds Skye fully embracing the grungy, unbridled enthusiasm of her and her band’s live performances, inviting listeners on a journey of near-death experiences, dreamworlds, loss, + rebirth.
Skye will be working for a week in our new studio, creating acoustic versions of their new record produced by Matt Mays set to release next year, while also focussing on new works as both demos and potentially final tracking, as Skye’s next project will be stripped down, acoustic, and entirely self-produced.
